Tigers Go Down for 1st Loss
Commerce got off to a good start in the George Walton Academy game in Monroe, as quarterback Drew Whitfield scored in the first quarter on a one-yard run over the right side of the offensive line culminating a 10-play, 80-yard drive. Nahum Mendoza kicked his first of two PAT’s on the night, as the Tigers jumped out to a (7-0) lead. In the second quarter, GW gained possession at the Bulldog 32 following the Commerce kickoff. Thirteen plays later, the Bulldog quarterback scored on a one-yard run.
The halftime score was (7-7). Following the second half kickoff by Commerce, the Bulldog returner lost a fumble to the Tigers at the GW 46. On the fourth play thereafter, halfback Terrick Ramsey ran to the left where he found resistance, then he reversed his field and after moving back to the right side, he scampered 25 yards for the go ahead touchdown. The Tigers were now ahead by seven at (14-7).
The final period proved to be unfortunate for Commerce, as the Bulldogs scored three times to gain the win (26-14). Tiger defensive back Chase Ledbetter had 15 tackles during the contest, and linebacker Chance McClure added 12.
