MMA fighting and more specifically the UFC is the fastest growing sport in America. Why? It is real, the fighters actually fight more than once per year, it is fast paced, and fan friendly. I am new to the sport but it is quickly growing on me. I used to be a huge boxing fan until it got so ridiculous that I gave up on it completely. The best fighters rarely fought in their prime and so many weight classes made it hard to find good fights. Boxing is a better sport in a vacuum but the UFC kills it in reality. In boxing it is rare to see an action packed fight. In the UFC it is rare to see a boring fight.
Football will always be king in America but other sports will get surpassed by the UFC. Baseball is too slow and will continue to lose viewers over time since they refuse to adjust to the 21st century. Basketball is great but is not fan friendly enough.
MMA fighting is simple and easy for a new fan to understand. Not many rules, and most people have been in a fight so they know what is going on! If you were like me and thought the UFC was just some idiots beating each other’s brains out, take another look and I think you will be surprised. Also professional fighting gives amateur wrestlers somewhere to go after college.
