ESPN Owned by Lebron

Ever since the much hyped “Decision” which aired on ESPN a few weeks ago, people have blasted ESPN for being partners with an athlete  they are supposed to cover. It’s hard to be objective while reporting on an athlete that you have partnered with on a highly viewed tv show.

So this week  when an article popped up on ESPN about Lebron partying in Las Vegas, the article disappeared quicker than LBJ did on the Celtics Series. He wasn’t really doing anything that most young men in Vegas would not be doing with his money. But the fact that ESPN pulled the story just makes them look like they are beholden to what Lebron and his crew want portrayed to the masses.

ESPN’s excuse for pulling the story was that the reporter who wrote it did not identify himself as a reporter and let them know he was keeping notes. Yet Lebron’s people had to have invited the ESPN writer, Arash Markazi, along. I don’t think he could have just crashed the party and gone unnoticed.

So no matter what ESPN’s intentions, their motives will always be questioned when doing any coverage of Lebron. And it should be. You may ask why they would be scared to let a story out that may be negative about LBJ. Well they want to make sure they always have access to the guy for interviews.

I also know that not too many people care much about this kind of thing since the evil 4 letter network (ESPN) is so popular and unstoppable. They shape the perception of sports in the USA with their 24 hour tv, radio, and huge website. They do some great work too. I just hate the fact that they are like fm radio. Much of their content  is crap but they shovel it out to the public and tell them it is great. And the public lets it wash over them on a daily basis.
